We know that making a care decision can be challenging for you and your family. In many cases, such decisions can be made gradually as you grow older or your health declines. Sometimes however, where there’s an illness or injury, a decision needs to be made quickly.

A HOME from HOME

We find that understanding your options can help you make the best choices for your personal circumstances. Living in residential care, while life changing, can also be hugely rewarding. It can present you with new opportunities in a caring and safe environment.

A care plan will be created, based on your social care and health needs, and your care will be provided in accordance with your wishes and preferences.
When your stay is complete, Silver Stream will maintain your care plan should you wish to return or avail of our continuing care options.

The term ‘dementia’ is an umbrella term which is used to describe a range of symptoms including loss of memory, mood changes, and problems with communication and reasoning.
Our Dementia, Alzheimer’s and Memory Focused Care Programme is designed for people who are affected by memory problems, including people with Dementia and Alzheimer’s.
A diagnosis of dementia can come as a shock. Even if you are expecting it, this will be a worrying and upsetting time. You and your family will need lot of reassurance and support.
The complexities associated with dementia conditions often provide the greatest challenges to independent living. The good news is that research is being carried out every day, and while it may not change your diagnoses, there are lots of positive ways in which you can improve and extend your wellbeing and quality of life.
Our staff are experienced and specifically trained to care for people who have developed dementia. Our professional care teams will be there to support you and your family at this difficult time.
At Silver Stream we promote the principles of person-centred care. The person-centred care approach focuses on the individual, not the illness or conditions. Instead of treating you as a collection of symptoms and behaviours to be controlled, person centred care considers you as a whole, taking into account your unique qualities, abilities, interests, preferences and needs.
By adopting a person-centred approach to care delivery, coupled with the latest complementary therapies and focused activity programmes, we can ensure that the best possible outcomes are achieved within a safe and caring environment.

Nearing the end of life, or being diagnosed with a chronic or terminal illness, can be a traumatic time for you and your family. Choosing end of life care with Silver Stream can ensure that you continue to receive care that meets your physical, spiritual, emotional and social needs whilst respecting your care choices, dignity and autonomy.
When you are nearing the end of your life, one of the most empowering things you can do is make plans for your care. Advanced care planning ensures that you are aware of the options and opportunities available to you. It allows you time to discuss your wishes and preferences in relation to your care with your loved ones.
Including residential care as an option offers an additional support tier when coping with your illness. All care options can be adapted and developed depending on your needs. Your care team will work in consultation with the multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals involved to ensure the optimum level of care and assistance.
A step away from the clinical hospital setting, we can continue to provide quality medical and nursing care, but in a private, homely and caring environment. We have care procedures in place so that the resident is only transferred to an acute setting when there are specific or advanced medical requirements that are outside our care practices.
All end of life care is provided by your personal care team, ensuring that your care is provided in a personal way, by people who know you, and understand the decisions and choices you have made in relation to your care.

Finance Options
You are welcome to pay your fees privately if you do not require financial assistance. You may wish to fund your care through income, pension or sale of an asset. Paying your fees on a private basis will be agreed with you prior to your admission and the information will be included in your Contract of Care.
If at any time while you are paying privately, you wish to apply for financial assistance then please discuss this with the Director of Nursing at your earliest convenience. All residents are welcome to apply to the Fair Deal (Nursing Home Support Scheme).
Taxation Relief & Allowances
If you are paying your own residential care fees privately, or are paying for another person’s care, you may be entitled to claim tax allowances or rebate.
You may claim relief for nursing home fees expenditure under the general scheme for tax relief on medical expenses at your highest rate of tax (either 20% or 41%).
A long stay resident who pays tax under PAYE can apply to have the expenses allowed in their tax credit certificate.
We advise you to contact the Revenue Commissioners to check your entitlements prior to, or upon commencement of paying your fees, as the tax allowances can be applied to the current tax year.
For more information about your entitlements and how to apply, go to www.revenue.ie
Carer’s Grant
The Carer’s Grant is an annual payment made to carers by the Department of Social Protection. Carers may use this grant to avail of respite care for the person to whom they are providing care in a Silver Stream Home.
In June of each year (usually on the first Thursday of the month), the Department of Social Protection pays the grant automatically to carers in receipt of Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit, Domiciliary Care Allowance or Prescribed Relative’s Allowance from the Department of Health.
If you would like to learn more about the respite grant, please contact the Department of Health as follows:

What financial support does the HSE offer?
There are two types of financial support available under this scheme – State Support and a Nursing Home Loan (Ancillary State Support).
How does the application process work?
There are two parts to the application process:
- A care needs assessment
- A financial assessment
For more information on the Fair Deal Scheme and to download an application form please follow the link:
https://www2.hse.ie/services/fair-deal-scheme/fair-deal-application-process.html
State Support
Your income and assets are assessed and your weekly contribution is worked out. The HSE will pay the rest of the weekly cost of your care, this is called State Support.
Nursing Home Loan (Ancillary State Support)
This is an optional extra feature of the Nursing Home Support Scheme for people who own property or land-based assets in Ireland. Instead of paying your full weekly contribution for your care from your own means, you can choose to apply for a Nursing Home Loan, to cover the portion of your contribution which is based on property or land assets. The HSE will then pay that portion of your cost of care on top of your State Support payment.
The loan is paid back to the State after the sale of all, or part, of the asset or upon your death, whichever occurs first. Repayment of the loan is made to the Revenue Commissioners. In certain cases, repayment of the loan can be deferred. This part of the scheme is designed to protect people from having to sell their home during their lifetime to pay for nursing home care.
For more information about the Nursing Home Loan and to download an application form please follow the link and complete Part 6 of the form.

Many health insurance providers offer a convalescence care option, or contribution towards short stay care, included in your health plan. To check your eligibility, you will need to contact your health insurance provider.
As Silver Stream Healthcare Group have no direct payment scheme with medical insurance companies, you will be required to pay your fees upon admission to residential care. The fees will include your accommodation and comprehensive nursing care.
As a resident you will have the same benefits and opportunities as long stay residents, with access to all services and facilities including health and social care programmes. You will also have access to a panel of therapeutic and specialist services on a private fee basis.
Following your stay, Silver Stream will provide you with all the documentation necessary to complete your medical insurance claim.
All Silver Stream Healthcare Group care fees are based on the nursing home, care option and accommodation type you choose.
Your schedule of fees and payment method will be discussed and agreed with you prior to your admission, including any additional or ancillary service fees.
Residents are encouraged to manage their own finances. If you are unable, the Director of Nursing will agree a nominated representative to manage your account prior to your admission.
All information regarding financial matters will be recorded in your Contract of Care.
Additional & Ancillary Care Fees
At Silver Stream you will have access to health, social and personal care programmes, as well as a range of ancillary and specialist services.
All additional fees and service charges will be discussed and agreed with you in advance. Where these fees are not covered by your entitlements, or included in your care fees, the fee will appear on your monthly invoice.
When possible, we endeavour to maintain a standard additional service fee to ensure that residents, or those contributing toward the cost of care, can budget expenditure rather that incur unexpected charges at the month end.
Our Finance Management Team continually monitor and review all additional and ancillary service fees to ensure that they remain appropriate. As follows is an overview of possible additional fees. If you have any queries or would like more information, please speak with the Director of Nursing.
